Emission Factor Database

Every CO2e figure in CarbonBiz traces back to an emission factor, so the factor database is built for auditability. The system set covers electricity, fuels, refrigerants, transport, water, waste and more, drawn from TGO emission factors, IPCC AR5 GWP values and DEFRA UK 2024. System factors are locked: they cannot be edited or deleted by any organization, so every customer calculates from the same baseline.

When you have better data, an administrator can add custom factors for your organization. Each is classified as Tier 2 (country-specific) or Tier 3 (measured or supplier-specific) and must carry a reason and a source URL. The record also stores who created it, the standard version (for example TGO 2024 or 2026) and the GWP version (AR4, AR5 or AR6), and the seven-gas composition from which total CO2e is derived.

Factors change over time. When one is updated, the previous values are kept in a version history with effective date and reason, and a Recalculate action re-runs every activity in your organization that references it, so reports stay current without re-entering data.
